CANTON ISD SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION

Announcement related to the closing of Canton Schools resulting from inclement weather, utility curtailments, or other reasons will be made through various radio, TV, Cable, and other sources that are well known to our students, staff, and parents. All of our administrators are involved in the notification process, so parents are advised to avoid calling the school campuses and monitor the following media sources instead.

The stations that may be expected to broadcast school closing information include radio stations KVCI 1510 AM (Canton)(after 6:30 a.m.), KRLD News Radio 1080 AM (Dallas), KTBB 600 AM (Tyler), and WBAP 820. Television stations include Dallas/Ft. Worth stations Channel 4-KDFW, Channel 8-WFAA, and Tyler TV Station Channel 7-KLTV.

The Canton Police Department will make an announcement through the East Texas Cable Company System.

A decision will be made as early as possible when inclement weather or other conditions exist; however, the difficulty in getting through to the various sources makes it necessary to disseminate the information through several sources. The decision will typically be made in the early morning hours since substantial changes in weather and road conditions can occur overnight. We have a lot of areas to check before a decision can be made, and sometimes the weather is changing even as we are making our road checks.

Once the students are at school, it is the school district's intent to try to complete the day rather than send students home early into situations where they might be unsupervised. Whenever possible, the district will keep its regular dismissal time so that normal after-school routines can be followed.
